Kavala Airport serves Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Located near Chrysoupoli, it is the closest airport to Thassos island — significantly nearer to Keramoti ferry port than Thessaloniki Airport. In summer it handles numerous charter flights from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

If you have time before or after your Thassos ferry crossing, Kavala is well worth a visit.

- Day Trip to Philippi: The ancient city of Philippi with its impressive theatre is just ~25 minutes’ drive away via the Kavala–Drama highway.
